Where is Tam Coc - Bich Dong?
Tam Coc is located at Ninh Hai commune, Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh province. About 100km to the South of Hanoi, Tam Coc is known as the "Inland Ha Long Bay" or the "Second most heavenly cave in Vietnam". It’s located right in the Trang An landscape complex, only 7 km to Ninh Binh city so you can easily travel to Tam Coc on weekends.

Tam Coc is beautiful in every season, each season shines in its very own way. If you want to admire the green rice fields, then the time after Lunar New Year celebration in February and March is the perfect time for you to travel to Tam Coc. Or if you want to visit Tam Coc in the beautiful ripen rice season, early June is the best time for you.

I just had a trip to Tam Coc one week ago on the 15th of May, when the rice is still green and in the ear. So if you don't want to miss this scene, be prepared to arrange a trip to Tam Coc right away.
Means of transport to Tam Coc
As Tam Coc is quite close to Hanoi so transportation is very convenient and easy. You can choose private vehicles such as motorbike or car to get there.
Tourist attractions in Tam Coc
Tam Coc (Three Caves) includes Hang Ca, Hang Hai and Hang Ba Caves. All of 3 caves are formed by Ngo Dong River piercing through the mountains.
- Hang Ca: This is the largest and longest cave in the cave system of Tam Coc, with a width of more than 20m at the cave entrance and the length is over 127m.
- Hang Hai: It is a small cave, with the length of only half of Hang Ca, which is about 60m. It's located about 1km from Hang Ca and at the downstream of Ngo Dong river.
- Hang Ba: Although this is the smallest cave, of only 50m long, it is considered the most beautiful cave compared to the other two. When entering the cave, you will be amazed by a stone arch favored by nature, skillfully honed with sophisticated details, thus creating a unique and wonderful beauty for the cave.
The entrance fee is divided into 2 categories: Sightseeing ticket and boat ticket. Sightseeing ticket is 120,000 VND/ person and boat ticket is 150,000 VND/ boat (4 Vietnamese or 2 foreign guests). Fees are free for children under 3 years old. And the minimum time to fully explore Tam Coc is around 3 hours.
Besides Tam Coc, you can visit the nearby tourist sites such as:
- Bich Dong Pagoda: Named as "Nam Thien De Nhi Dong", which means “the second most beautiful cave of Vietnam”, only second to Huong Tich cave in Ha Tay.
- Mua Cave: Located 3km from Tam Coc, with only 486 stone steps to get to the top to see the whole view of Tam Coc with the vast rice fields or to enjoy the panoramic view of Ninh Binh city. The entrance ticket is 100,000 VND/ person and the exploring time is at least 2 hours.
- Vietnamese Ancient Village: Or also called Co Vien Lau, here you will experience the peaceful village space, featuring the characteristics of Vietnamese countryside in the XVIII - XX century.
