From September to November is the best time to visit Sapa: pleasant weather; graceful combination between nature and people gracefully; picturesque scenery,etc.- all the features that tourists love. 1. Conquer Mount Fansipan- the roof of Indochina
Fansipan is the highest mountain of Indochina (3,143m above sea level), situated at the center of Hoang Lien Son range. Although it is only 9km to the South West of Sapa, it takes 6 to 7 days to conquer Fansipan by foot. Nowadays, many explorers, both professional and amateur, try to get to the top of Fansipan. Some book the tours of travel agencies, others follow the lead of local Mong and Dao people in Cat Cat village.
During the hike, tourists can discover the variety of flora and fauna, as well as the beautiful nature of Hoang Lien range. There are many Hoang Lien trees- a valuable plant; many special woods and animals: bears, monkeys, mountain goats, birds…
You can also choose to transport by cable cap. The Fansipan cable system has been in operation since 2016, which has been helping thousands of tourists to come and observe the peak of Indochina. This is also the cable with 2 Guinness World Records: the world’s longest three-rope cable car system (6292,5m) and the biggest ascent by cable car (1410m from the first station to the last one). The amount of time it takes to visit Fansipan now decreases from 2 days to only 15 minutes.
2. Ham Rong Mountain
Ham Rong Mountain is only 3km from Sapa’s center so tourists can walk to this destination. From the top of Ham Rong, you have the chance to get the whole view of Sapa, Muong Hoa valley and Sa Pa, Ta Phin village. Now, with humans’ modifications, Ham Rong is really a masterpiece of Sapa. In Ham Rong, tourists feel like being in the heaven’s garden surrounded by clouds and flowers.
3. Sapa Stone Cathedral
Situated in the centre of the town, Sapa Stone Cathedral was built in 1895 and is considered the most preserved old structure survived from the France colonial era. The Cathedral, which has been upgraded and sustained, has become an important image of Sapa.
4. Cat Cat village
This is an ancient village of Mong people, 2km from Sapa city centre. Here still maintains handicraft-making tradition like cotton planting and weaving fabric. Cat Cat village is near the city center so it is pretty popular among tourists. The village has now been developed to become a tourist area.
5. Ta Phin village
Ta Phin is a village of Sapa district, 17km to the East of Sapa. It has spectacular nature and Red Dao people’s traditional culture and famous brocade-making. When going to Ta Phin, you can visit Ta Phin cave nearby. In the cave has stalactite in the remarkable shapes like dancing fairy or sparkling tree forest…
Besides, there are a lots of traditional villages to visit like: Ta Van village of Mong, Giay, Tay, Red Dao people; Y Linh Ho village; Lao Chai village of Black H’mong people (7km to the South West of Sapa, next to Muong Hoa stream); Ho village of Tay people; Lao Chai village of Black H’mong people (8-9km to the South East of Sapa, to the Western bank of Muong Hoa stream); Ho village of Xa Pho people..
6. Muong Hoa valley- Sapa Ancient Stone Gallery
Muong Hoa is a valley of Hau Thao commune; 8km to the South East. From Sapa, through a pass tracing along a high mountain and through a charging station (80.000/person), you will reach Muong Hoa valley. The special thing about this valley is that it has an ancient stone gallery with remarkably-shaped stones between the green and terraced rice fields. No one has succeeded in identifying the origin and meaning of these strange-looking sandstones. Sapa Ancient Stone Gallery is categorized as national heritage, a significant inheritance of the ancient Vietnamese. Muong Hoa valley also has a beautiful stream of about 15km, flowing through Lao Chai, Ta Van, Hau Thao and ends at Ban Ho commune.
7. Silver Fall- Bay Peak
12 km from the West of Sapa, following the route to Lai Chau is Silver Fall, 200m above the terrace. It pours water into streams in O Quy Ho valley, making a marvellous scene. However, the fall drains water in the spring so tourists should consider carefully before visiting the destination in this season. 3km from Silver Fall, you will see the peak of the pass. Looking up and you will have a full view of Mount Fansipan, while looking down, you can see the path to Binh Lu.
8. Heaven gate
18km to the North of Sapa is a winding mountain road. This road is called Tram Ton, leading the way in the majestic Hoang Lien Son range. And Heaven gate is the peak of this pass. Standing in the middle of Sapa Heaven gate, you can observe the astounding valley from above with green rice fields, busy roads and Silver Fall from afar. You can also feel the breathtaking beauty of Mount Fansipan in comparison with other mountains.
9. Tien cave
From Bao Nhai commune, 6km against the current of Chay river is is Trung Do ancient wall with lots of legends. Here the river becomes deep and peaceful, flowing through the steep mountain cliffs. Tien cave is a miniature of Ha Long, sticking with the legend of Ba Co shrine in Bao Nhai commune. Many tourists come here to enjoy the scenery and bathe in Tien stream while soaking the delightful early morning sunshine. They all wish for beauty, health and wealth.
10. Coc San
Situated in Coc San commune, Bat Xat village, 7km from Lao Cai, Coc San is a complex of waterfalls and caves varying in size and shape. The road leading to this destination is winding, dark and hindered by huge stones. Coc San possesses natural and undiscovered beauty. A special thing about this complex is that almost every fall pours water into a cave. The place is very quiet, peaceful and gives off a mysterious feeling from the falls, the stones and the caves.
